FSX Boeing C-97G / KC-97G Basepack Update
FSX Boeing C-97G Stratofreighter (new) and KC-97G Stratotanker (updated). Previous
installation of basepack "FSX Boeing C-97 V.1 Beta" required. This update includes the C-97G
Freighter model and modifies the KC-97G Tanker model to include a cargo hold and cargo door.
All intermediate patches issued so far have been integrated as well, so all you need to make the
pack work is an installed V1 Beta basepack (either patched or unpatched).
By Roland Berger (testing), Manfred Jahn (models, textures, Monitor gauge), William N. Davidson
(testing), Dan McManus (technical research, VC and panel textures, crew calls) Wayne Tudor
(Flight Data Envelope), Ted Wolfgang (soundset). Interior model adapted from Greg Pepper's
original FS2002 model.
Two paintkits are available as FSX Addons from the Warbirds Library at Sim Outhouse (www.sim-
outhouse.com). You have to be a registered member to be able to download.
Original paint kit:
Dave Quincey's version (May 2015):
Future releases are planned to include comprehensive documentation, more C-97 and KC-97
variants, and an AI version.
Minimum system-requirement is FSX SP2, FSX Gold Edition or Acceleration recommended.
A FAQs page on past and current issues is available in Team Strat's home forum
(1) Please make sure folder "Boeing_C-97" exists in your FSX\Simobjects\Airplanes. If not present,
download and install the basepack "FSX Boeing C-97 V.1 Beta" first -- it is available from the
libraries at Flightsim.com and Sim Outhouse.
(2) If your present setup contains any downloaded C-97 paints make a backup copy of your
aircraft.cfg. This allows you to add the fltsim sections of your paints to the new aircraft.cfg after
installation of this update.
(3) Extract the zip to a temporary folder or open it in Windows Explorer.
(4) Copy the files and folders at the root level of the zip into your FSX "Boeing_C-97" folder. For
this update you should accept "replace" mode on files and folders when prompted.
(5) The C-97G livery included is entitled "Boeing C-97G Stratofreighter 30272".
(6) When flying the aircraft for the first time you may be prompted to accept some gauge modules
as trusted software. These are widely used FS modules (see credits, below).
(1) Monitor gauge. We are still at a Beta stage so for the time keep using the 'Monitor' gauge (Shift-
4) to handle most aircraft functions. Click the Help buttons in Monitor to show help screens for all
subpanels. Get individual tool tips by hovering the mouse over click spots (you may need to be in
windowed mode to see them).
(2) Flying tips. Click Monitor > Misc > Chk to call up the standard checklist.
(3) Key assignments. You can use your 'tailhook' command to lower or raise the boom on tanker
aircraft or the rear ramp on freighter aircraft (you may have to assign your own special key via FSX
Settings > Controls > Buttons/Keys). Ctrl-W or whatever is currently assigned for 'water-rudder'
will trigger engine reversing. Reversing mode needs to be armed via Monitor > Engines > mid-click
(4) Crew Calls. If you want some of the Monitor commands to be accompanied by interphone crew
calls then activate the small loudspeaker icon at the bottom of the Monitor > Flight subpanel. The
crew calls are editable .wav files in Boeing_C-97\panel\DSDSounds\. See file
00__dsd_fsx_xml_sound.txt for help.
(5) Automixture (FSX Settings > Realism > Engines > enable automixture) may be left on or off. If
ON, you will get FSX prompts when changing altitude and can either adjust mixture manually or
mid-click Monitor > Engines > Mixture (value) for "set best".
(6) Radio altimeter. The decision height setting defaults to zero feet AGL. Use the left knob on the
radio altimeter gauge to set it (in the VC: right click increases, left click decreases). If Crew Calls
are ON the co-pilot will call out "decision height".
